Claude Sonnet 5.5 now available in Q4
We’re excited to bring Anthropic’s newest Sonnet model to Q4.

Claude Sonnet 5.5, released on 28 September, takes over from Sonnet 5 as the middle of Anthropic’s lineup: quicker and cheaper to run than Opus 5.5, which Anthropic keeps for work that needs the most careful judgment. The price per token is unchanged from Sonnet 5, but Anthropic says the new model needs far fewer tokens to do the same work.
According to Anthropic, Sonnet 5.5 generates output more than 30% faster than Sonnet 5 and costs up to 30% less per task. On GDPval-AA, which scores models on real-world professional work, it rates 1844 against Sonnet 5’s 1449.
Speed matters more in research than it sounds. A single Q4 question can mean reading several filings and an earnings call transcript before the model answers, and every one of those steps waits on it. Anthropic also says Sonnet 5.5 is better at long-horizon work and image understanding, which covers the charts and tables that fill investor presentations and financial reports.
In practice, Opus 5.5 is still the pick for the hardest questions, like weighing conflicting guidance across several quarters of calls. Sonnet 5.5 is the one for everyday work, where you want a strong answer without the wait.
To try it, open Q4 chat, choose Claude in the model picker and select Sonnet 5.5. It is available in Q4 now.
